About the League of Women Voters of Fairview Park

The League of Women Voters, established in 1920 grew out of the effort to gain the right to vote for women. Men were accorded full League membership in 1974.

The Fairview Park League of Women Voters was established in 1954 and actively served the community until l984

Believing the absence of League had left a void in the community, a group of concerned citizens established the Fairview Park MAL Unit in September, 1995.  MAL Units are intended for smaller communities and are not required to sustain the full workload of normal League activity.

Since its' reorganization the Fairview Park League has sponsored non-partisan candidates nights for all general elections, printed Voter's Guides for all local elections and sponsored Ballot Issues Forums when appropriate.  Starting in January 2000 we have observed most City Council Meetings and School Board Meetings.   In addition the membership registers voters at public events, sponsors forums of interest to the public and actively participates in Summerfest.
In cooperation with the Social Studies Department at Fairview High School the League sponsors the Youth in Government Project that encourages high school students to run for local office in a mock election.
